Guindais:
- Café Guindalense. Close to Retiro da Se restaurant. There is a great view over the river, cheap beer and lupin (we eat lupin with our beers as a snack – we recommend getting those). This is an old-school place, but a must-go if you want to live the proper Porto experience.
- Sé do Porto (Porto’s Cathedral). After visiting the cathedral you can walk to Igreja dos Grilos.
- Retiro da Se. It is one of the last-standing traditional restaurants in Porto. We call it a “tasco”, these are traditional places where you can eat cheap, fresh and well. Don’t expect anything fancy though! Retiro da Se is only open during lunchtime and it’s ideal to go between 12-2 pm. It’s well positioned and there are loads of places to explore around. Please flag if you have any dietary requirements. – this is a restaurant near Se do Porto.
- Ponte D. Luis Bridge. Close to the other suggestions above, you can walk across it and enjoy the view of the river below, and cross to the other side, to Vila Nova de Gaia (the city opposite Porto).
Gaia:
- World of Wine. A venue full of restaurants, and wine! It also has a view of Porto, from across the river.
- Caias de Gaia. Cross the Ponte D. Luis bridge and walk along the promenade
- Casa do F.C. Porto na Afurada. Eat massada de peixe.
- Jardim do Morro
- Praias de Gaia (Vila Niova de Gaia beaches).
Caves de vinhos (Wine Cellars):
- Caves Calém. Porto wine tasting.
Bonfim/Baixa:
- São Rock Climbing (bouldering) e Parque de São Roque
- Café Dona Mira. For a casual glass of wine.
- Casa Guedes Tradicional. Eat some traditional pernil sandwiches.
- Letraria Porto. A nice outdoor space with lots of craft beer.
Baixa - Santa Catarina:
- Negra Café. A great place for brunch.
- Mercado do Bolhão. One of the most famous markets in Portugal.
- Batalha Centro de Cinema. An alternative European cinema.
Baixa - Ceuta:
- Trindade. A good area of Porto to explore.
- Garden Porto Café. A nice brunch spot.
- Aliados. Another area to explore.
- Praça dos Leões. A square close to monuments
- Livraria lello. Very famous bookshop with an amazing interior
- Jardim das oliveiras. A lovely outdoor area with a nice bar called Base Porto
- Igreja do Carmo. A church which you can have a look inside of.
- Matrecos 77. A bar where you can play table football.
- Capela Incomum. Wine bar which plays Fado music.
- Catraio. A craft beer place
- Torre dos Clérigos. A tower which you can climb provides a great view of Porto.
- Base Porto. A great place for some drinks if the weather is nice. It's a fancy outdoor beer garden in downtown.
- Virtudes. An area near jardim da coordoaria and cadeia da relacao. A great place to watch the sunset with a drink.
- Cadeia da Relação. A free museum/old prison with exhibitions.
- TiPO Bar. Close to Cadeia da Relação. Grab a €1 beer (if the price hasn't gone up by now!) and enjoy an amazing sunset over the river. Also near Jardim da Cordoaria.
- Nola Kitchen. One of our favourite brunch/lunch spots.
- Nicolau Porto. Another great breakfast/ brunch spot. Make sure you book in advance!
Boavista:
- Galerias Miguel Bombarda. A street full of art galleries.
- Palácio de Cristal. A beautiful park/garden.
- Casa da Música. A cultural landmark which holds events.
- Mercado bom sucesso. A food market.
- Serralves. A beautiful garden with free exhibitions on Sundays (before 2 pm).
- Jardim Botânico. Another beautiful park/garden with a fantastic restaurant, Maria Dentada, owned by Jo's cousin.
Ribeira (riverside on Porto side)
- Rua das Flores. A street full of traditional shops
- Mercado Ferreira Borges. A place that holds music gigs/nights.
- Miss Pavlova. A great pastry/desert place.
- Ribeira riverside promenade . You can cross the bridge and go to the other side of the river.
- Mirajazz. A tapas restaurant with live jazz.
- O Fado. Restaurant with live Fado music.
- Rei dos Falos de Amarante. Traditional restaurant
- Taberno Santo António. Traditional restaurant.
- Alfandega. A cultural area near the river.
- Boat tour of the bridges. You can take a tour of the river to see all the bridges from here.
- Casa D’oro. Best pizza in Porto, with an incredible riverside setting. We recommend going here when it's nice weather so you can sit outside.

Foz:
- Walk along the promenade.

- Castelo do Queijo. Local landmark.
- Praia de Luz. One of our favourite beaches in Porto, with a great bar.
- Tavi - Confeitaria da Foz. A great breakfast place.
- Parque da Cidade.The biggest park in Porto.
Matosinhos:
- Matosinhos Market. Eat Mafaldas (best daily menus)
- Café Terrárea. Good coffee spot.
- Terminal dos Cruzeiros Leixões. A port where the cargo ships come in. Check in advance to see if it’s open as it's not always available to the public.
- Escola de Surf (Surfing Life Club). A surf school.
- Restaurante Teresa. A fish restaurant where you can eat fresh fish (caught the same day).
- Tito 2. A fish restaurant where you can eat fresh fish (caught the same day).
Leça (you can take metro blue line direction Sr. De Matosinhos and walk to Leca):
- Seiva. Vegan restaurant.
- Terminal 4450. A restaurant specialising in meat.
- A Knaipa. A fantastic, and cheap, family-owned fish restaurant.
Going out:
- Galerias de Paris. A street with several bars.
- Maus Hábitos. Rooftop bar, good for music gigs, and also has a nice restaurant.
- Pérola Negra. It used to be a strip club, and now is devoted to house and techno music. Open on Friday & Saturday only (12 am - 6 am).
- Plano b. Nightclub. Open Thursday, Friday & Saturday (10 pm - 6 am).
- Aduela. A cute place for a glass of wine in the heart of the city.
- Gare. Another nightclub. Open Friday & Saturday (12 am - 7 am).
